Josh learns to read...

Josh has shown an interest in learning to read for some time now, but nothing could have prepared me for what happened a few moments ago. A friend had passed along a stack of "sight word" books that her kids had outgrown and they'd been lying around for awhile. Josh had spent some time looking at them and working to sound out the words but had never really read one himself beyond memorizing and reciting. With Ethan, learning to read was a very slow and gradual process so I wasn't prepared for what just happened and am still shaking my head in disbelief at having witnessed Josh figure it all out. This morning he was a non-reader. This afternoon he can officially read. And it wasn't just one book... he sat down and read all TWENTY-ONE BOOKS to me while we ate lunch. I managed to snap a quick picture before my phone's battery died. What an awesome experience for us both.
