Soccer in the Park

We've had a few weeks of unscheduled fun and have had a great time exploring Saskatoon in the summer. For some weird reason, organized soccer only takes place in May and June (until the kids are older I assume) and we were disappointed that the kids' soccer seasons were cut even shorter by our trip to Portland. Fortunately I discovered that the Saskatoon Youth Soccer organization sends a couple of coaches travelling around to various parks around the city every day and we've taken full advantage! Let's just say that Rob, Carson and Olivia know the boys very well and have come to expect them at every 10:30 am game, regardless of where they are in the city.

So our days start off with soccer, which we follow up with a picnic lunch and a thorough investigation of the park that we're at (our tally is currently up to 14 new parks that we've discovered).

Here are some videos from a recent park adventure (Ethan's goal of the summer is to master monkey bars... I think his record is about 4 bars in a row now).

The parks that the soccer program travels to also always boast either a splash park or paddling pool, so guess what we do after we play at the park??

If that's not enough, there are "playground program leaders" at all the parks that do crafts with the kids. So of course we have to fit a craft in at some point during our stay.

Now that Josh is riding his bike more frequently, the kids and I bike to as many parks as possible. We bought a "Wee Ride" for Leah which is very appropriately named as you'll hear her yell "WEEEEEEE" as we ride around!! The "Wee Ride" also enables us to take long family bike rides down to the river with Daddy on the weekends (Pete gets quite a workout pulling all 100 pounds of the boys in the bike trailer!).

Needless to say, we've had a fun and busy few weeks. When we're not playing soccer you can find us at one of the outdoor pools (but don't bother looking at one without a waterslide!). We've also had lots of fun keeping in touch with school friends and having a couple of playdates a week.
