Ethan turned 5 yesterday. FIVE! That means we've been changing diapers for 5 years straight! Yowsers. It also means that it's been 5 years since I first experienced love at first sight. It's been 5 years of Ethan... and what an awesome 5 years they've been!
On Sunday, we rented a field at the soccer centre and hosted Ethan's birthday party. In lieu of loot bags, we hired a balloon twister for an hour who did an awesome job and was a huge hit. After seeing the cake I made for Josh a couple of weeks ago, Ethan asked if he could design his own cake. He thought about it for awhile then drew a traffic light complete with the left turn advance (he told me he debated for awhile whether he wanted a "red light green light green arrow" or "a straight and turning sign"). That's Ethan for you. So the challenge was extended and I accepted (with a little help from my friend Kelly - THANK YOU!). Here are some pictures from the party. The balloon twister was so good that when Ethan wasn't impressed with his balloon party hat and requested instead a "red light green light green arrow", the guy hesitated for less than a second and then won over the birthday boy moments later.
Monday (his actual birthday) was a school day so Ethan woke up to presents at breakfast, then hopped on the bus stocked with timbits for his classmates. He came home to a surprise birthday lunch with his friends Mathew and Jessie and then we had a family celebration at the Fun Factory later that evening (we had the place to ourselves and Pete and I took full advantage of playing in the play structures with the kids). We finished up the day with cake at home and a family game of Trouble then tucked the birthday boy into bed.
Here's hoping the next 5 years are as great as the last...!
