The Great Escape!!!

I have wonderful parents. Thanks to them we accomplished what many parents only dream of:

MEXICO. IN FEBRUARY. WITHOUT KIDS.

Needless to say, it was a fabulous week and we can't thank them enough. (I should also mention that my in-laws are equally wonderful given they offered us the same opportunity in January but our original plans fell through... perhaps they're willing to take a raincheck 'cause I think we're on to something... heh heh). Truth be told we missed the kids immensely and are pretty sure a trip to an all-inclusive is in their not too far-off futures. As such, we opted for day trips that would be harder to accomplish with the kids in tow. The first was a "Mayan Extreme" adventure, which included zip-lining, repelling and snorkling in a cenote. It was AWESOME and definitely one of the highlights of the trip. (Pete is the first zipliner, I'm the second).



Another day we hopped on the "Collectivo" (a van service that runs along the Yucatan Peninsula picking up tourists and locals alike and costs only $3US per person) and went to Playa del Carmen which boasts one of the best beaches in Mexico. After some shopping, we had a wonderful time confirming the quality of the beach!!



A trip to Tulum was how we spent Superbowl Sunday (fewer tourists!!) and we had fun touring the ruins and eavesdropping on whatever English guides we came across as we were too cheap to hire our own!!



The rest of our time was spent at our fabulous resort, the Gran Bahia Principe Coba which we would definitely recommend to anyone heading to the Mayan Riviera. We ate like royalty, lounged by the pools and on the beach, discovered many new drinks, and enjoyed the nightly entertainment. It was a fantastic week and one we won't soon forget...



... Meanwhile, back in balmy Saskatoon, we are under the impression that Grammy and Grandpa had an eventful week!! The stories about some school mishaps still have me chuckling. The kids obviously enjoyed themselves thoroughly and have introduced us to a number of new games they learned or invented with Grammy and Grandpa ("Crack the Whip" on the back rink being the hands-down favourite!). My folks are currently recovering in Banff for a few days before heading to Glenn and Brian's respectively to do some more babysitting gigs before the month is out!! Hopefully their older grandkids take it easy on them (hint hint if you're reading this!!). I have a feeling these 2 videos summarize their week in Saskatoon perfectly:
